I live in East TN America. My Mortgage lifter and my Big boy tomatoes began so well. Then it was 90 plus degrees starting end of June, still is and they are hurting. Very little relief in sight. Been picking a few large on both plants that matured in June, still many of them not maturing. Leaf curl to the max. No flowering. I've shaded them. Still tomatoes on them - many. But the leaves look bad. Hard hitting heat and humidity day after day. Deer Lady - are these plants done? Pete from East TN America

I had never heard of that Rosekrone pea, even though I'm from Sweden. Now I have to get some for next year. I'm growing another Swedish heirloom pea, "Lokförare Bergfeldts jätteärt". Meaning Train Driver Bergfeldt'sGiant pea. Mine are over 2,5 meters, and getting huge pods, over 20 cm. Beautiful purple flowers and tasty pods. But huge.

Sounds wonderfully,do you save your own seeds from this variety,or are they available to buy,I have an allotment and try to grow mostly heritage varieties of vegetables,I find they taste so much better, there's nothing to compare with shop bought veg!

I bought one from a nursery at year end sale in 2023. They bloomed in autumn and spring. They aren't finished yet, but a lot of the stems might just have seed pods. Not sure what to do. Heat wave here in Ontario Canada, July 3/24. Any advice appreciated!

I'm trying Oregon Sugar Pod peas right now in Australia, they're currently a similar height to yours. It's a cool season crop in many parts here, and does grow slower with the short winter days. Can't wait for them to start blooming and usher in the feeling of spring

It's a good way to clear bindweed but apparently you have to leave the cover on for two years to kill it off. Alan Titchmarch says bindweed won't grow on lawns becuase you mow low. Well, many don't all have flat lawns with short species of fine grass to mow low. It's all over my front and back lawns and into my beds. The gardener in The Guardian says dig it up, no need to use weedkiller. You can't do that if there is rubble and stones under under your garden, unless you get a digger and pay to dump 2 ft deep rubble. That's how far bindweed goes. I'm afraid you have to grow it up canes to get enough leaf for weedkiller to act. if you are unable to smother your patch for two years. That or be far more anti nature by getting the digger in.

Thanks Katrina, those are lovely supports, nice to treat yourself occasionally, nice to see your peas and beans are quite robust, good idea to protect them not only from the pigeons but the combination of heat and wind at this time of year can desiccate the leaves and weaken otherwise healthy new plants too ! I Checked out the Orchard Garden, they have some lovely items for sale, I'd love to do something similar one day !

I bought so many blubs for spring and summer 100 crocus, 30 ranunculus , about 30 anemone , dahlias probably 40 allium 5 echinacea bare roots, 15 pavonias . Only thing that has come up are the Dahlias not on crocus came up. There planted in front and back garden in the ground and pots I even have some planted in pots on a grave in a different county. I did buy them from the same place a reptile company 😢. Then I bought spring blubs from lidl they were fantastic. I know the weather hasn't been good for the garden my vegetables haven't done great this year . I'm so disappointed. I dug up a few crocus blubs two day ago to see what was going on and they are the same as the day I planted them back in November hadn't even taken root.
